Working from home |
Today the whole world is fighting against corona virus. Every effort is being made to understand how to deal with this virus. Due to this epidemic, most companies have provided jobs to their employees starting from home facilities. The overhead cost of offices has come down, such as the cost of electricity, the cost of telephones, the cost of drinking water, the cost of cleaning offices too.
The direct result of saving time is to
increase the productivity level of the workers. People can spend more time on
their work. Another reason for this is the improvement in productivity due to
daily commuting so, the average output from the person working from home has
increased.
Employees can follow a flexible schedule,
which improves their mental health and inevitably results in increasing their
productivity.
As you work from home you can become a more
active participant in family matters. You can contact your family on a more
frequent basis. For example, your child will want your five minutes because he
has doubts about his homework. You can easily take part in his query while
working. So, work from home improves your balance of professional and personal
life.
Working from home is good or bad during
Covid-19, The whole world is almost in a state of lock-down. Almost everyone is
confined to their home for more than 2 months, excluding much-needed services
such as the medical profession or the police. Working from home (or WFH which
is now popular) which was prevalent in the IT sector before Covid-19, became
the only way to work for the majority of people irrespective of their
profession.

So, working from home is good or bad, especially from a health perspective. No doubt, working from home offers many benefits, especially for working mothers. For some, working from home makes no difference to their work compared to working physically from the office. However, working from home can also have a number of unwanted side effects. Not everyone has the luxury of living in an independent home where there are opportunities to exercise by walking around the house or on the roof.
They could even do a gym or at least a
treadmill at home. However, the average middle class person will be confined to
a small flat most of the time. This will almost certainly mean that his or her
level of exercise will come down drastically. It is generally recommended that
everyone try to take 10,000 steps per day. If one can go for a walk in the
morning, one can easily accumulate 5,000 - 6,000 steps. When going to the
office for work, in addition to walking in the office, some level of travel
will help to complete 10,000 steps at the end of the day.
One would be extremely difficult to find
10,000 steps, confined to one’s own home. Over time, this means that the
calories eaten will not be expended. It can lead to weight gain and obesity and
diabetes or worsening of diabetic conditions, high blood pressure and even
heart disease. At home, one is mostly confined to a chair and possibly a
computer. This can mean sitting for long periods of time which can affect
health including back problems, muscle abuse, stress on the neck and eyes.
Sitting as they do smoking. Diets also tend
to be irregular and most people admit that they eat too much food when they are
confined to their home. In the office, the schedule includes specific 'lunch'
and 'break' times.
Perhaps the biggest loss is on the mental
state. People have to communicate with others and in an office one has to meet
a lot of people and thus one has an outlet for emotions and they have to get
help for some problems related to the job. When one is confined to the four
walls of one's home, it often leads to depression, anxiety and stress. At
least, it can be overcome through breaks, rest, hobbies and yoga, pranayama and
meditation. However, one still gets the feeling of ‘couped up’ and this can be
quite frustrating in the long run.
Thus, in the early days, working from home
may seem like a boon, in the end it often becomes a detriment. Having said
that, there are many people who work successfully from home and are able to
adjust their work life situation very well. It is a matter of a person taking
care of his health even if he works from home.
